Forward Emails to Real Inboxes — When You Actually Need It
Sandbox keeps every email safe by default. Nothing leaves unless you say so. When a stakeholder needs to see it, a client needs to approve it, or a designer needs to check it in a real mail client — forwarding gets it there. Pre-verify a destination address per inbox. Forward manually or automatically using rules.
Nothing is forwarded without your explicit permission.
By default, every email in your Sandbox inbox stays in Sandbox. It never leaves. Nothing is forwarded to a real address unless you configure it.
When you do need to forward — to share a specific email with a stakeholder, or to route a category of emails to a real inbox automatically — you have two options: manual forwarding per email, or auto-forward rules that run on every incoming email.
Every destination address must be pre-verified on the inbox you're forwarding from before any email can be sent to it. Verification is per inbox — if you want to forward from multiple inboxes to the same address, verify it on each one.
Verify before you forward. Per inbox.
Before any email can be forwarded from an inbox, the destination address must be verified on that inbox. Sandbox sends a verification email to the destination — the recipient confirms, and the address is available for forwarding on that inbox immediately.
Why verification exists: It ensures emails can only be forwarded to addresses you control — preventing misconfigured rules from accidentally sending test emails to unintended recipients.
01
Add a destination address
Add a destination address in your inbox's forwarding settings.
02
Verification email sent
Sandbox sends a verification email to that address.
03

Recipient clicks the confirmation link.
04
Address verified
Address is verified and available for forwarding on that inbox.
MANUAL FORWARDING
Forward any email with one click.
Open any email in your Sandbox inbox. Click forward. Select a pre-verified destination address. The email is sent immediately — exactly as received, unmodified.
Stakeholder review — A product manager needs to see how the onboarding email looks in a real inbox before it ships. One click. Done.
Design sign-off — Your designer wants to check rendering in Gmail and Apple Mail on their own device. Forward from Sandbox instead of setting up a real sending environment just for a review.
Client approval — Building email flows for a client? Forward specific test emails to a pre-verified client address. They see the real email — not a screenshot, not a shared link.
AUTO-FORWARD RULES
Route entire categories of emails automatically.
Auto-forward rules run on every incoming email. Define conditions — and every email that matches is forwarded automatically, without touching them individually.
Two rule modes
Forward all emails in this inbox
Every email that arrives is automatically forwarded to a pre-verified address. Use this when a specific inbox should always mirror to a real mail client — no conditions needed.
Advanced rule builder
Build conditions using match all or match any logic. Define what the email must match — only those emails are forwarded.
Sender address contains "billing"
Sender address equals noreply@yourapp.com
Match ANY example
Match ANY of the following:
Sender address Contains billing
Sender address Contains payments
→ Forward to accounts@yourcompany.com
Forwards all emails from any billing or payments sender — useful for routing a specific team's test emails to their real inbox automatically.
Match ALL example
Match ALL of the following:
Sender address Equals noreply@yourapp.com
→ Forward to design@yourcompany.com
Forwards only emails from this exact sender — useful for template review without routing everything else.
What teams use Email Forwarding for
Your client needs to approve the email before it ships
You've built a transactional email flow for a client. They want to see it in their real inbox — not a screenshot, not a Sandbox link. Add their address to the inbox, verify it, forward the test email. They see exactly what their users will see.
Your designer is checking rendering across real clients
Sandbox shows HTML Preview across Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail. But your designer wants to see it on their own device, in their own mail client. Forward from Sandbox — one click, real inbox, real render.
Your payments team needs to see every billing email automatically
Set up an auto-forward rule matching any email containing "billing" in the sender address. Every billing email that hits your Sandbox inbox is automatically mirrored to your payments team's real inbox — no manual action needed per email.
You're verifying end-to-end delivery before a production release
Your QA checklist includes confirming that a specific email reaches a real inbox correctly formatted. Forward the test email to a verified address, open it in a real mail client, and check it off — without touching production.
The things developers ask about Email Forwarding
Does Sandbox forward emails by default?
No. Nothing is forwarded unless you configure it. Every email stays in your Sandbox inbox until you forward it manually or set up an auto-forward rule.
Why do I need to verify an address before forwarding?
Verification ensures emails can only be forwarded to addresses you control. It prevents misconfigured rules from accidentally routing test emails to unintended recipients.
If I have multiple inboxes, do I need to verify the same address on each one?
Yes. Verification is per inbox. If you want to forward from three inboxes to the same destination address, verify it on each inbox separately. This keeps each inbox's forwarding configuration independent.
Are forwarded emails modified in any way?
No. Emails are forwarded exactly as received — unmodified. The recipient sees the same email that landed in your Sandbox inbox.
Can I forward to more than one address with a single rule?
Each rule forwards to one destination address. Create separate rules to forward to multiple addresses.
The right email. The right inbox. When you actually need it.
Verify a destination address on your inbox. Forward manually with one click or automatically using rules — whenever a real inbox needs to see what Sandbox caught.
